Builder Badge

I was lent a box of mismatched Lego by a friend's son and spent a very satisfying evening attempting to sort it out as I was trying to find all the bits to make a model elephant and it's baby. Got there eventually! There weren't any googly eye pieces but I am pleased with the result. Lego have a downloadable instruction manual for making random models, which is rather useful.

Building or Landmark
I built a castle, with arrowslits and ramparts. I didn't have many bricks so there are a few holes, so it is clearly battle damaged! It is guarded by green ninjas, obviously.

A plant or flower arrangement
I tried making a rose following online instructions then found I didn't have enough parts so had to adapt it.  I am pleased with the result as it looks like a flower even if it's not a red rose. I didn't have enough of anything to make any more flowers for an arrangement so this will have to do. Rather pleased with it nonetheless!

I have really enjoyed doing this badge. I haven't played with Lego since I was a child and had a great time rummaging through the box to try and find the parts I needed, as well as being ridiculously proud of my creations!

This month has been rather slower on the badge front due to end-of-school-year exhaustion for one thing. However, on the penultimate week of term I accompanied a school Duke of Edinburgh's Award trip to the Brecon Beacons in Wales, with fellow rebel Rachel and two D of E leaders. Obviously we had to take Fred the houseplant with us and he accompanied us on several walks, stayed in tents and minibuses and played in an adventure playground. He also came to a cafe. The weather was generally awful, but he coped magnificently (as did we and the kids). While there I finished my Camper Badge, and started my Advanced Camper Badge. I only had the menu planning and camp kitchen to do for camping, as I had camped lots the previous year but hadn't needed to cater. Advanced camping should be finished after a festival next month and Rebel Camp. I highly recommend camping in the rain, and hiking in the Welsh hills on damp days. Community Service Badge

I shall mostly be helping out at County Scout events with Scout Active Support Unit. Corf Scout Camp Open Day 15th May 2022 The day began at crack of silly when the entire island was woken by the most enormous clap of thunder. The weather didn't improve! I spent the day helping make hot drinks for cold, wet children and their parents, and later cooking burgers to help keep up with demand. A chilly, damp but fun day. Wood Badge Training Weekend 20th - 22nd May 2022 Friday evening was spent shopping with Linda for all the food we needed for the weekend as we were catering for approx. 20 leaders and trainers. We arrived at Corf Camp at 7.15am the following morning, put the water urn on to heat (and the kettle!) and began preparing breakfast - cereal, toast and bacon, eggs, sausages and beans. Maverick Award

I completed my Bronze Maverick Award this month - very exciting, and I feel I should share my adventure with you.  My Community For this I ran a Warhammer Club after school for Secondary School students with an interest in the hobby. I have been doing this for some years with a fellow Rebel, but this year decided that the club needed to be more structured and the kids needed to be given a focus and more responsibility. To this end we created the 'Council of Doom' for the older students so that they had a say in how the club was run, and took responsibility for teaching new and less experienced students about the joys of Warhammer. This worked well until they had to go to revision classes instead. However, younger students took up the mantle of responsibility and organised our resources cupboard to a degree I am incapable of, and continued building our 'Age of Sigmar' army in readiness for the Armies on Parade competition in the autumn.
