Corf Scout Camp Open Day 15th May 2022
The day began at crack of silly when the entire island was woken by the most enormous clap of thunder. The weather didn't improve! I spent the day helping make hot drinks for cold, wet children and their parents, and later cooking burgers to help keep up with demand. A chilly, damp but fun day.
Wood Badge Training Weekend 20th - 22nd May 2022
Friday evening was spent shopping with Linda for all the food we needed for the weekend as we were catering for approx. 20 leaders and trainers. We arrived at Corf Camp at 7.15am the following morning, put the water urn on to heat (and the kettle!) and began preparing breakfast - cereal, toast and bacon, eggs, sausages and beans. People arrived and food was eaten. We then cleared up and prepared lunch, and the vegetables for dinner. I had a mad dash home to collect slow-cookers as we were not convinced the oven was up to the job of cooking a joint of meat. This joint was then cut in half and slow cooked on high for four hours before being finished off in the oven. We stayed overnight in rickety beds in a glorified shed, and made breakfast the following morning, followed by a lot of packed lunches. Clearing up was completed, crockery, cutlery and pans were put away for next time, the floor was washed and we went home. I have not done that much cooking and washing up in a long time!
Parking
Helping the SAS with parking at Beaveree and Cub Camps.Approx. 3.5 hours in total.
Helping with parking at Arreton Open gardens on June 26th 2022, to help raise funds for Scouts attending the Jamboree in Korea and for Wight DASH. 5 hours in total. Also helped organise the money collections on the gates.
Litter Picking
I helped a local group of volunteers pick up litter in a copse - there were a lot of beer cans and bottles, and crisp packets. It was an interesting couple of hours exploring an area I didn't know well and getting to know some more locals.
I also keep an eye on the stream near my house and the lane behind and clear litter periodically.
